Nov 18, 2022

Owing to the pandemic, consumer purchase behavior has changed forever. Most of us today choose to make our day-to-day purchases online, instead of walking into physical stores.

While this has given rise to an ever-expanding ecommerce industry, it has also brought forward the need for businesses to explore online marketplaces in India and selling sites to reach their target audience.

If statistics are to be believed, B2C marketplaces are estimated to reach about $3.5 trillion in sales by 2024. In addition to the same, 47% of digital purchases across the globe actually happen via online marketplace platforms. Which online marketplaces in India should you sell on?

The marketplaces you list your business on should vary based on who you’re targeting, the type of products you sell, the selling price of your products and your business goals.

But as a golden rule, we do recommend listing your products on online marketplaces and selling sites only after you have established an online store of your own.

While online marketplaces and selling sites give you access to an already established audience, it’s important to note that there is also a lot of competition on them. A consumer who makes a purchase from your brand through a marketplace is the least likely to remember your brand the next time they want to make a similar purchase - especially when they are presented by innumerable other options on making a search on the marketplace.

An online store ensures that only your products are visible to a customer at a given time. You’re never competing for consumer attention once they are on your website.

The ideal approach as seen by leading brands, is using the best of both worlds. Create an online identity for your brand with a storefront, but at the same time get your brand in the know-how by being present on the right marketplaces.
